When you close the throttle, boost pressure has nowhere to go except back out through the turbo. The resulting compressor surge places rapidly oscillating loads on the turbo’s compressor blades and thrust bearings, which can lead to premature wear or failure. The more boost you run, the worse this issue becomes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAdding a BOV (blow-off valve) into the turbo system relieves excess pressure when you lift off the throttle, thereby eliminating compressor surge to protect your turbo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHowever, not all BOVs are created equal.
